Schedule jobs

Certain configuration tasks that are performed on a storage system may not be not immediately processed, but instead are kept in a job list for review and submission in batches.

About this task

This option can be used to schedule one-off jobs.

In addition, there is a snapshot scheduler option available. This is not available by default for storage systems running PowerMaxOS 5978 Q3 2020. There is a properties file on the server that can re-enable the scheduler for storage systems running PowerMaxOS 5978 Q3 2020, if wanted.

In addition, this option can be used to create a recurring daily SnapVX snapshot for a given time. There is also an option to cancel a recurring snapshot. In the event of a failed recurring snapshot, an alert is raised to notify the user. The schedule continues to run in the event of a failed snapshot, issuing alerts to the user. The alerts list view retains a record of the failed snapshots (unless the alert is deleted). A warning level alert is issued.

Note the following for SnapVX snapshot jobs:

  • If the job is already scheduled to be recurring, the job cannot be grouped.
  • Unscheduled jobs can be grouped and a single recurring schedule that is applied to that group.
  • You cannot edit a recurring schedule once it has been created. If you want to change a recurring schedule, you must delete the existing recurring schedule and set up a new recurring schedule.
  • If you want to create more than one daily snapshot, for example, every Monday at 9AM and every Monday at 5PM, you must schedule multiple jobs for the wanted times, that is, rerun the Protection Wizard with SnapVX, add to job list, and schedule the jobs for the required times.
  • When scheduling a weekly snapshot, it is recommended that you choose one day and time to take the snapshot, for example, Wednesday at 8AM.
